About founder

autobiographical collection from the personal blog of Deonath Gandate, an Indian journalist and digital media expert. It chronicles his journey from a modest childhood in rural Meha, Chandrapur, to his professional evolution in journalism and web design. The narrative highlights his early academic struggles, the cultural richness of the Zadipatti region, and his transition into the news industry through local publications. Significant focus is placed on his entrepreneurial shift during the pandemic, where he established a digital media startup to help others navigate the online space. Through anecdotes about his first flights and coastal travels, Gandate reflects on themes of social reform, perseverance, and digital literacy. Ultimately, the source serves as a personal archive documenting a career dedicated to community-driven storytelling and technological adaptation. Deonath Gandate's journey from a remote village to a successful digital entrepreneur is a story of profound resilience, adaptability, and continuous learning. Early Life and Educational Struggles Deonath was born in 1983 into a simple farming family in the quiet, forested village of Meha in the Chandrapur district . His early childhood was spent in a house without electricity, studying under the dim light of kerosene lamps . After completing his primary education in his village, he had to cycle 14 kilometers every day to attend school in Vihirgaon . When he later moved to Chandrapur city for his college education, he faced severe financial hardships. Despite having a strong interest in Geography, he had to opt for Marathi Literature simply because he fell short of 300 rupees for the required fees . To support his education and room rent, he took up a part-time job at a stationery shop for a meager salary of 500 rupees a month . Entry and Rise in Journalism His interest in the news was sparked by his mentor, Ravindra Kudkawar, who helped him publish local village updates in the 'Lokmat' newspaper . His formal entry into journalism was triggered when he successfully reported on a progressive and unconventional funeral in his village, which made the front page of the newspaper . This inspired him to join 'Dainik Chandrapur Samachar' under a "Learn and Earn" initiative, starting at a salary of just 600 rupees . Through sheer dedication, he went on to spend around 13 years working for 'Dainik Sakal', covering diverse beats like agriculture and rural development, and eventually took on leadership roles such as the Nagpur City Desk Incharge . The Turning Point: COVID-19 Lockdown Recognizing the growing importance of technology in the media, Deonath left his traditional journalism job in 2019 to establish 'Smit Digital Media' . However, the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown became the ultimate catalyst for his business . Stranded in his village without a proper computer or internet connection, he initially managed client social media updates and design work entirely on his mobile phone . Recognizing his dedication, his friends traveled during the strict lockdown to deliver a laptop to his village . Observing that print newspapers had halted and fellow journalists were facing severe pay cuts, he identified a vital market need and began designing news portals for journalists at highly affordable rates (between 3,000 to 4,000 rupees) . Operating out of a small corner in his village home, he focused on client needs and his business grew rapidly through word-of-mouth . Success as a Digital Entrepreneur Deonath's small startup soon flourished into a recognized digital media business. As a digital entrepreneur, he has achieved several notable milestones: Web Development: He has designed over 300 news portals, utilizing his self-taught skills to empower many journalists to transition online . Digital Literacy: He actively conducts digital literacy workshops and webinars across Maharashtra, training journalists on the effective use of digital media, social media, and online news broadcasting . Consulting and Content Expertise: He serves as a media and digital consultant for various educational and social institutions, and in 2022, he worked as a 'Content Expert' for the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation . Authorship: In 2023, he published a book titled "Digital Media Sandhi aani Avahane" (Digital Media Opportunities and Challenges), which successfully sold 800 copies within its first three months
From studying by a kerosene lamp in a remote village to empowering others through digital literacy, Deonath transformed his adversities into the foundation of his entrepreneurial success
